The Uco Clubmaker's Golf Vise & Shaft Extractor Reviews

I was looking mainly for a shaft puller and looked at the modified hydraulic jack version and the very expensive professional model sold by a major golf retailer. As I wanted something simple to use and didn't want to spend over $200 to re-shaft my Pings, I came across this unit. After some research and thinking, based on the image, I could not figure out how you could use this to pull shafts from the club head. Using it as a vise is obvious, and the one other review mentioned being able to use it to pull shafts. So, for the price, I thought I wold give it a try, and at worse case, it would have been an swanky looking vise.
It arrived within a week of ordering and I was very pleasantly surprised at two aspects of this unit. The first was how well engineered the unit is. It is made expressly as a shaft vise and pull, not some retrofit of something else. The crank mechanism works very smoothly as does the clamping level. The second thing I noticed was the quality of the materials used. The base as are the crank wheel, vise jaws are all made from solid pieces of aluminum, so the unit has some heft to it. There are no hollow or folded pieces of aluminum plate anywhere.
As a vise, this works as expected. There are rubber "V" shaped inserts glued into the vise jaws to protect the shaft. The crank wheel allows for easily adjusting the opening of the movable jaw to accommodate different shaft diameters.
Now, as a shaft puller. There is an additional rod with a "L" shaped handle on it that fits into the opening at the rear (fixed) vise jaw that is not pictured. This rod, is partially threaded and has a solid bar/lever that screws on to it. So, you clamp in a shaft, adjust the bar/lever so it rest directly behind the hosel, apply heat to the hosel and slowly turn the rod handle. As the shaft is clamped to the base, by turning the rod handle, the rod forces the bar/level away from the base and slowly pulls the head off of the shaft. The bar/lever is about 4 inches long and each end has a different sized groove to fit 2 different sized shafts/hosels. I will try to upload a picture of the rod and the whole setup with a club head being removed.
Overall for the price and if you want to change shafts at home instead of paying up to $15/club, I would highly recommend this unit.
